Georgia O'Keeffe

Georgia O'Keeffe

I chanced upon postage stamps of U.S. Post which were very colourful and had absolutely stunning visuals. This was at Denver airport in mid nineties. I was so enamoured by these stamps, that I bought several of them. They carried the paintings of Gerogia O'Keeffe, considered to be one of the greatest woman artists of the twentieth century.

Subsequently I picked up several books and cards for myself and for gifting to friends. She lived a long life and a very productive one. The visuals of her paintings especially the flowers and landscapes from New Mexico are simply etched in my memory and will not go away.

I was fortunate to see some of her original paintings at a show at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York in 2011. The show also carried some intimate pictures of Georgia shot by Alfred Stieglitz, her husband and promoter.

I hope to see the museum at Santa Fe in the near future which houses a significant collection of her paintings.
