Beautiful and charming was the impression at first sight. We were walking up the mall at Darjeeling, looking for a place to eat. The remarkable white building of Glenary’s was a magnet which drew us in. What a charming cafe that was. After crossing the counter which sells pastries and cakes, there is this beautiful area of the cafe with an outdoor extension. We were told that there is an eating area upstairs as well, which we did go and check out. It looked too formal - good for senior citizens or for business lunches. We opted for the informal cafe with its tastefully done up decor. There was a group of guests and they were extremely noisy which forced us to sit in outdoor area which actually turned out to be quite a good idea. There were interesting people around us. One group was playing cards while having food, whereas two middle aged ladies at another adjacent table were rolling cigarettes. The aroma of the smoke indicated that it was not pure tobacco that they had rolled their cigarettes with. The food also turned out to be good, making the overall experience very memorable. They have a pub at the lower level but then we had just started out on the mall. The start was no doubt a good one.
