My first visit to Sangla Valley in Himachal was in 2010. It was followed up in 2011 and then again in 2014 with stay at Banjara Camps each time. Chitkul is the last village on the Indian side before the big mountain ranges leading into Tibet.
In 2010, my impression of Chitkul was that of a quaint little village. The changes in each subsequent visit were clearly noticeable. More tourists have started coming in so more places to stay including hurriedly constructed hotels and guest houses apart from shops and eateries.
This picture features two women who I consider represent the spirit of women entrepreneurs across India. One runs the store which is in the background and the other one runs a hotel across the street. She proudly mentioned that one of her daughters is now studying at a boarding school at Shimla. The picture tells another story of how these women entrepreneurs have not shied away from their family attachments and commitments and seem to manage both beautifully.
